Approximately 1:1000 pregnancies are complicated by cancer. With women delaying childbearing to older ages, the diagnosis of cancer during pregnancy is increasing.<\/p>\n

Because of the lack of data on pregnancy and cancer treatment outcomes for mother and child, women decline cancer treatment during pregnancy, termination of pregnancy is recommended by their doctors, or women are encouraged to deliver their newborns prematurely in order to begin cancer treatment postpartum.<\/p>\n

A multi-center registry to record all cases of cancer diagnosed during pregnancy, included cases treated with chemotherapy during pregnancy with their respective outcomes is vital. Only by this means may we accrue the data we need to offer optimal treatment to our patients.<\/p>\n

This is the purpose of the Cancer and Pregnancy Registry maintained at Cooper Medical School at Rowan University. Accumulating data on how women are diagnosed and treated internationally is analyzed to note trends in diagnostic delays in pregnancy to recommend improvements, and to collect long term outcome data for the mother and neonate to publish treatment choices which are safest for the mother and child.<\/p>\n

Pregnant women calling the Registry after a diagnosis of cancer during pregnancy, are reassured to learn they are not the only pregnant woman to have experienced this diagnosis, and that long term outcome is being collected on neonates.<\/p>\n

This provides valuable guidance, information and support for patients and oncologists with which to make informed decisions about treating cancer during pregnancy.<\/p>\n

I am always so happy to open a letter from you and know that you are still <\/em>committed to this\u00a0study. Thank you for that. I hope all is well with you and your family. Our family is doing well at the\u00a0moment, especially Lauren. She is growing into a budding teenager. Sometimes acting way too old <\/em>for\u00a0her age and mostly still naive and innocent. She is very social with tons of friends. Loves to dance, sing\u00a0(auditioning for her school play today and wants <\/em>nothing but <\/em>a lead) plays basketball and softball.\u00a0Lauren Is very outgoing and not shy at all. She is sensitive- sometimes to a fault. Not always the <\/em>best\u00a0student, a little lazy and loses focus when she finds things difficult. She is working on this and has done\u00a0much better this year. I'm hoping she's growing out of it. (My son had a lot of <\/em>the same issues) Her\u00a0teachers love her though, always trying to change the subject from the C she got in math to \u201cwhat a\u00a0lovely girl she Is,\u201d during her conferences. She's living in a house where all her siblings are now adults so It can be a bit challenging sometimes, but she is good. Her siblings want to kill their annoying little sister\u00a0most days but I think that's normal and I remind them that she still HAS to live here, they don't.<\/p>\r\n

We are a little extra cautious with Laurens health but all in all she is a pretty normal kid. We are\u00a0so lucky to have found you when we did. I had some doctors who realty didn't have a clue what direction to send me. I just remember how at ease you put me during the worst time of my life. Thank You from the bottom of my heart.<\/p>\r\n

I wish you were able to see my \u201canxiety meter.\u201d Since our meeting, it has plummeted to the level where all other normal mid-thirty mothers are. I look at Will with confidence now, instead of worry. What an incredible gift you have given my family. The gift of knowing for sure that our decisions didn\u2019t harm our child.<\/p>\r\n

I wonder if you\u2019ll ever truly realize the magnitude of the research you are doing. There will probably be thousands of women who will look to it someday. They\u2019ll be silently praying for something hopeful to answer the questions that their doctors can\u2019t. I believe that this study will do just that.<\/p>\r\n

You are amazing. I\u2019m incredibly thankful that I made the decision to contact you. I\u2019m also so happy that I had the opportunity to hug your neck. I felt honored that you came up to meet Will and me.<\/p>\r\n

Dr. Gringlas was a pleasure. She was incredibly professional, wonderful with Will, and sympathetic to our situation. Knowing that she could relate to what I had gone through when I was sick helped calm my nerves. It\u2019s always comforting to know that we are not alone.<\/p>\r\n

Dear Suzanne, I am going to do my best to make this letter short but I could go on for days about how much Dr. Cardonick and her knowledge about pregnancy and cancer has helped us.\u00a0 I was about 13 weeks when diagnosed with breast cancer and the first thing in my mind was not me it was\u00a0my baby.\u00a0 We, of coarse, thought we would have to terminate.\u00a0 The\u00a0best thing that happened to us at this horrible time was\u00a0meeting\u00a0 Dr. Cardonick.\u00a0 She was able to help us understand\u00a0that I could still get the treatment I needeed without hurting\u00a0our baby. She was able to give us other patients she had cared for in\u00a0the\u00a0past to talk to. Any question we had, she could answer and make us feel 100% better.\u00a0\u00a0We would have never been able to get through that time in our lives as easy as we did without her.\u00a0 I thank God she does what she does.<\/p>\r\n
