Hello Dr. Cardonick it is so good to hear from one of my Angels; and yes of course you can share our story. Wow, it is hard to believe how many women are often facing this horrible illness during such a special moment in their lives as to becoming a mom again or for the first time.

You played a very important role in my fight, and one of the reasons as to why me and my twins are still alive.

Thanks again and best regards,

Zoila

Thank you for the generosity of your time, wisdom and experience during my pregnancy. I continue to direct other to you for advice and believe the data you are acquiring will benefit many future generations.

The Burkhow Family

I am always so happy to open a letter from you and know that you are still committed to this study. Thank you for that. I hope all is well with you and your family. Our family is doing well at the moment, especially Lauren. She is growing into a budding teenager. Sometimes acting way too old for her age and mostly still naive and innocent. She is very social with tons of friends. Loves to dance, sing (auditioning for her school play today and wants nothing but a lead) plays basketball and softball. Lauren Is very outgoing and not shy at all. She is sensitive- sometimes to a fault. Not always the best student, a little lazy and loses focus when she finds things difficult. She is working on this and has done much better this year. I’m hoping she’s growing out of it. (My son had a lot of the same issues) Her teachers love her though, always trying to change the subject from the C she got in math to “what a lovely girl she Is,” during her conferences. She’s living in a house where all her siblings are now adults so It can be a bit challenging sometimes, but she is good. Her siblings want to kill their annoying little sister most days but I think that’s normal and I remind them that she still HAS to live here, they don’t.

We are a little extra cautious with Laurens health but all in all she is a pretty normal kid. We are so lucky to have found you when we did. I had some doctors who realty didn’t have a clue what direction to send me. I just remember how at ease you put me during the worst time of my life. Thank You from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you Dr. Cardonick for helping me make the choice of life! Best thing that has ever happened to me.

Dear Suzanne, I am going to do my best to make this letter short but I could go on for days about how much Dr. Cardonick and her knowledge about pregnancy and cancer has helped us.  I was about 13 weeks when diagnosed with breast cancer and the first thing in my mind was not me it was my baby.  We, of coarse, thought we would have to terminate.  The best thing that happened to us at this horrible time was meeting  Dr. Cardonick.  She was able to help us understand that I could still get the treatment I needeed without hurting our baby. She was able to give us other patients she had cared for in the past to talk to. Any question we had, she could answer and make us feel 100% better.  We would have never been able to get through that time in our lives as easy as we did without her.  I thank God she does what she does.

I wish you were able to see my “anxiety meter.” Since our meeting, it has plummeted to the level where all other normal mid-thirty mothers are. I look at Will with confidence now, instead of worry. What an incredible gift you have given my family. The gift of knowing for sure that our decisions didn’t harm our child.

I wonder if you’ll ever truly realize the magnitude of the research you are doing. There will probably be thousands of women who will look to it someday. They’ll be silently praying for something hopeful to answer the questions that their doctors can’t. I believe that this study will do just that.

You are amazing. I’m incredibly thankful that I made the decision to contact you. I’m also so happy that I had the opportunity to hug your neck. I felt honored that you came up to meet Will and me.

Dr. Gringlas was a pleasure. She was incredibly professional, wonderful with Will, and sympathetic to our situation. Knowing that she could relate to what I had gone through when I was sick helped calm my nerves. It’s always comforting to know that we are not alone.

I wish you the best of luck with the rest of the study. If there is ever anything that I can do to help please let me know. We look forward to seeing you again in two years!

The amount of life and death decisions I’ve had to make over the past year and a half has been… overwhelming.. to say the least. Every single doctor I consulted with advised against keeping the baby. Except one. An internet search landed me on the Hope For Two website and after a brief intake with the organization, I received a phone call from Dr. Elyse Cardonick who gave me straight forward evidense-based reasons as to why and how I can receive cancer treatment while pregnant. They also connected me to a pen-pal of sorts, someone who had a similar type of cancer while pregnant.
